Member Rights and Responsibilities

Members have the right to:

  1. receive information about UMBH’S services and providers, clinical guidelines, and members’ rights and responsibilities.
  2. be treated with respect and recognition of their dignity and need for privacy.
  3. participate with providers in decision-making regarding their treatment planning.
  4. candid discussion of appropriate or medically necessary treatment options for their conditions, regardless of cost or benefit coverage.
  5. voice complaints or appeals about UMBH or the care provided.
  6. make recommendations regarding UMBH member rights and responsibilities policies.
  7. receive information about UMBH’s services in a language they can understand.
  8. participate in the decision making process of UMBH’s policies and quality improvement activities.
  9. easily access care.
  10. fair and equal treatment, regardless of their race, religion, gender, ethnicity, age, or disability.
  11. receive information about advocacy and community groups and prevention services.
  12. receive information on the clinical guidelines used in providing and/or managing their care.

Members have the responsibility to:

  1. provide, to the extent possible, information that UMBH and its providers and facilities need in order to care for them.
  2. follow the plans and instructions for care that they have agreed upon with their providers.
  3. participate, to the highest degree possible, in the understanding of their behavioral health problems and developing mutually agreed upon treatment goals.
  4. keep appointments or notify their provider as soon as possible regarding a missed appointment.
  5. discuss any difficulty in regards to fee payment with their provider.
